In response to an uptick in Russian drone activity, Moldova and Romania are intensifying their defense collaboration with Ukraine. This initiative aims to bolster their aerial defense capabilities, including the development of their own drones to counter such threats. On August 27, at least five Russian drones breached Moldovan airspace during the country’s National Day celebrations, an event attended by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Romanian President Nicusor Dan.
Moldovan President Sandu criticized the drone incursions, labeling them as intimidation tactics by Russia. She expressed that the conflict in Ukraine is increasingly spilling over into neighboring countries, highlighting the need for enhanced regional cooperation. Sandu underscored the importance of investing in defense systems and working closely with Moldova’s allies to address these security challenges.
