Prime Minister Donald Tusk characterized the incident as unprecedented, emphasizing that it marks the first known attempt by a Russian-linked entity to target a US citizen within another NATO member’s borders. Polish officials identified the intended victim as a US citizen of Ukrainian descent, whom the Russian government allegedly viewed as a threat.
The suspect, accused of being recruited by Russian intelligence, was apprehended in Poland on August 7 and is currently held in custody for a three-month term. This operation was executed in collaboration with US intelligence agencies, according to the Polish minister responsible for overseeing intelligence services.
