Spain is preparing for an abrupt weather transition this weekend as temperatures in certain inland areas are predicted to plunge to 3°C before rebounding to over 30°C in other regions. The central and northern parts of the country are expected to experience notably chilly mornings, while warmer conditions are anticipated in the south.
Inland cities such as Ávila and Segovia are forecasted to see temperatures as low as 3°C and 4°C, respectively. Other cities like Burgos, León, Salamanca, and Huesca may also experience morning temperatures around 5°C. Meanwhile, the southern cities such as Seville and Huelva could see afternoon temperatures reaching 31°C, and Granada, Málaga, and Almería are expected to rise to around 27°C.
The stark contrast in temperatures means that residents and visitors might need to layer their clothing, donning warm attire in the morning and lighter outfits as the day warms up. This unusual temperature shift is accompanied by weather warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas across several areas, particularly along the Mediterranean coast and in southern Spain.
Girona’s coastline is under orange warnings due to strong winds and waves reaching three to four meters, while Menorca could see waves of four to five meters with strong northerly winds. Mallorca, Ceuta, and Lanzarote are also on alert for adverse weather conditions, including wind, rain, or thunderstorms. These weather patterns could disrupt ferry services, coastal walks, and other outdoor activities, prompting travelers to check local forecasts before planning.
As the weekend progresses, warmer air is expected to spread across much of Spain, starting from October 12. Cities such as Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Ourense, and Seville could again experience temperatures exceeding 30°C, while Madrid may reach around 25°C. This return to warmer conditions is likely to push temperatures above the seasonal average, making it feel more like late summer in many parts of the country next week despite the colder start.
